DAY 2 : INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE EN ROUTE
Lose one day crossing the International Dateline.
DAY 3 : ARRIVE AUCKLANDSEBEL HOTEL
Transfer to the Sebel Hotel, pre-registered for immediate check-in. Afternoon tour of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city built around more than 60 volcanoes and seemingly surrounded by water. Auckland is well endowed with parks and reserves. Parnell Village is a delightful redevelopment of an older area of the city. The War Memo-rial Museum houses the world’s largest collection of Maori artifacts.
DAY 4 : AUCKLANDSEBEL HOTEL
Morning at leisure. Drive to the Waitakere Ranges and take a nature hike under the lush forest canopy. Travel to the black sand beaches of the West Coast for dramatic coastal vistas from high cliffs. The highlight is a walk along the surf line where your guide shows you New Zealand’s shore life. (B)
DAY 5 : ROTORUAKAWAHA POINT LODGE
Drive through Ngaruawahia, home of the Maori Queen, to Waitomo and tour the incredible Glow-Worm Grotto. Take a silent boat ride on an underground river into a cavern spangled with radiant blue-green lights of thou-sands of tiny glow-worms. Continue via densely forested Mamaku Hills to Rotorua, known for its hot springs and as the center of Maori culture. (B,D)
DAY 6 : ROTORUAKAWAHA POINT LODGE
At Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland see geysers, mud pools, mineral terraces, colorful pools, and steaming vol-canic lakes. In Waimangu Volcanic Valley walk into the inverted volcano for lunch. Visit Rainbow Springs with over 135 different native trees and ferns. Many native birds including pigeons, pukekos, keas, kakarikis, more-porks, paradise ducks, wekas and harrier hawks are on display, including the nocturnal kiwi. The Agrodome features 19 different breeds of sheep. This evening journey to a sacred Maori meeting place, Te Tawa Ngahiri Pa, for a Maori hangi (feast). (B,L,D)
DAY 7 : CHRISTCHURCH HERITAGE HOTEL
Fly to Christchurch on the South Island, a charming English-style city with its own River Avon. Visit Cathedral Square, the Town Hall and Hagley Park. Dinner is on board the charming Christchurch Tramcar. (B,D)
DAY 8 : CHRISTCHURCHHERITAGE HOTEL
Get ready for your TranzAlpine Adventure! Cross the picturesque Canterbury Plains to the foothills of the South-ern Alps to board the TranzAlpine train for Arthur’s Pass and Otira Gorge. Take an exhilarating jet boat ride on the Waimakariri River. (B,L)
DAY 9 : QUEENSTOWNMATAKAURI LODGE
Morning flight to Queenstown. Afternoon free to enjoy the luxuries and facilities of Matakauri Lodge. (B,D)
DAY 10 : QUEENSTOWNMATAKAURI LODGE
This morning is the Shotover River jetboat ride – a wild experience skimming over thrashing rapids in inches of water! (B,D)
DAY 11 : QUEENSTOWN MATAKAURI LODGE
Drive along the eastern shore of Lake Wakatipu to Lake Te Anau and into spectacular Milford Sound. Take a fjord cruise to see native forests and sheer cliffs rising more than 2000 feet. Gigantic waterfalls tumble from mountain lakes and mile-high Mitre Peak soars above you. Fly to Queenstown (weather permitting) with incredible views of precipitous mountains and Sutherland Falls. DAY 12 : QUEENSTOWNMATAKAURI LODGE
